Gianfranco Merati represents reality often in an unconventional way. He is particularly interested in capturing images that would be difficult to observe with the naked eye. He achieves this by using either high-speed photography (in the most extreme cases 1/38,500th of a second) to freeze events that last very short moments or macro & micro photography to enlarge details that are too small to be appreciated without magnification. Sometimes he combines the two approaches by shooting very small and fast-moving scenes. Gianfranco also enjoys taking more traditional shots, although he tends to interpret the classics through his own unique lens.

When not working hard, Gianfranco can be found either playing with his daughter Charlotte or holding hands with Helen.
